Oderings School Garden Project

This year Oderings have decided to fund a trial programme that gets children involved in gardening. 

We are lucky enough to be one of the ten schools involved. 

Each month an Oderings staff member and Christchurch Horticultural Society member come out to our school and take a small lesson on their planned topic. They also supply us with plants and any materials needed. 

This months topic was pollination. We learnt about leafcutter bees and how they help with pollination.

Today we started a maths unit about understanding our money and how to use it correctly.  It is a life skill and one that can be shared at home.

Banknotes in circulation

New Zealand has two sets of banknotes in circulation – Series 6 and the new Series 7. Both series are legal tender. Both sets have five denominations: the $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 banknote.

Series 7 $5 and $10 banknotes were released in October 2015 and the remaining three denominations were released in May 2016.

Cyber Citizenship

Today we were lucky enough to have two educators from the Christchurch City Libraries team come and lead our students in a session titled, 'Cyber Citizenship' to support our inquiry about the Internet and Being Safe Online. We learnt safe and appropriate ways of being an online citizen. We explored the concept of citizenship at home, at school, and in the physical and digital community. We discussed ways of avoiding common problems and had some creative fun.

We used an app called Chatterpix during our session.  The students really enjoyed this and we will be downloading this on our school iPads for our students to use.  Follow this link if you would like to download this on devices at home. Chatterpix App
